Ralph Hocker is a lifelong Central Pennsylvanian. He was born and raised in Marysville, PA and now lives in Mechanicsburg.
About 25 years ago he took up the hobby of woodcarving and became a member of the West Shore Wood Carvers. Today his fish, walking sticks and Old World Santas are much sought after by collectors.
In 2005 he began painting with watercolors and soon after switched to acrylics and then to oils. He works in all three mediums but favors oils.
Three years later he began painting with the “Seven Lively Artists” and participating in their exhibits and events. Ralph is mostly self-taught but has taken workshops and classes at local art centers. He has recently been asked to teach painting and wood carving classes.
He is one of the founding members of the Susquehanna Valley Plein Air Painters. Central PA landscapes are featured in Ralph’s work and he paints many en plein air.
